Nestled between the foothills of the Grimming and the Kemet Mountains lies the wildly romantic Salza Reservoir with a length of five kilometers and a water capacity of eleven million m³.
The formation of this terrain incision can still be traced back to the work of the glaciers millions of years ago. The 121 meter long and 53 meter high dam was built in 1947/49, recently it was completely renovated. The Salza reservoir is located in a nature reserve, near the Optimamed health resort Bad Mitterndorf. The state road along the Salza reservoir (Bad Mitterndorf - St. Martin) is closed due to the danger of rockfall and falling rocks (this closure also applies to cyclists and pedestrians).
A visit to the Salza reservoir is free of charge.
